Job Interviews – Preparing and Getting Yourself Ready

Before going to a job interview, there are a few things that Techies must remember in order to get that dream job. Hopefully, this article can provide you with additional insights on what to expect during interviews and help you prepare for what’s to come.

1. Always be prepared – Never go to an interview or pre-screening unprepared.. Here are some important things to remember:

  • Research about the Company – never let your interviewer catch you unaware about the nature and business of the company.
  • Research about the Job Position – while some job postings are clear about requirements, there would be cases where you might need to clarify with friends or the company itself regarding the role and responsibilities of the job you are supposedly a good match for.
  • Bring your resume and a pen – don’t leave a negative impression by forgetting to bring a hardcopy of your resume or having to borrow a pen when filling-up an application form.
  • Prepare yourself physically and mentally – Dress smart, don’t smoke, use the restroom, turn off your cellphone, etc. Always think about the things that might distract you during your interview.

2. Arrive on Time – Be sure to be at the scheduled interview location about 5 to 15 minutes early. Don’t be too early but don’t ever be late.

3. Be at your best during the interview – Always remember to be at your most impressionable while talking to your potential employer. Here are some tips that might help you gain more points during the interview.

  • Use your proper judgment before shaking hands/sitting.
  • Maintain proper eye contact with your interviewer.
  • Answer questions straight to the point. Conversations are welcome but don’t be too chatty.
  • Ask intelligent questions or clarifications which will help you get more information and at the same time show your interviewer that you are truly interested about the company/job position.
  • Never pre-empt the interviewer about job benefits/compensation since this topic usually comes out at the end and only if the interviewer is interested in you.
  • Speak clearly and enunciate your words. Don’t ever fidget or mumble which are signs of weakness and unease.
  • Always control your mannerisms. Don’t even attempt to flirt with the interviewer and don’t beg for the job position because you need it. Never use clichéd answers for expected questions since this will make you seem too rehearsed.

4. Be prepared to be tested – there will, of course, be companies that will require you to take written examinations to gauge your skills, knowledge and proficiency. For I.T. job openings, expect tests that will assess your programming/technical skills and competence whether this is oral, written or practical during the interview session.

5. Learn and be patient – Some of your job applications might not go the way you expect it to be. Always ask how long the company will be able to inform you regarding the results of your interview and follow-up when you haven’t heard back within that time period.

We all know that interviews can be daunting. Remember these tips, be yourself, but also be professional. You will certainly be able to get the tech job or career you’ve always dreamed of. Also don’t forget to send your updated resume through our itprosasia.com resume drop box, this will definitely help you get more interviews and job offerings through our I.T. focused job openings.

Creating and preparing your Techie Resume

When looking for a job you desire, new graduates and even experienced professionals know that first impression is very important for all potential employers. Business clothes, hair cut, make-up, everything to hopefully impress your future boss. However, none of these bears more importance to how you present yourself through your resume which should showcase your experience and your skills that qualifies you for the job position you’re applying for.

Through our resume box facility, we have received hundreds of resumes from techies that vary both in content and quality. We have written some tips on this article to boost your resume writing knowledge so that you can use it to your advantage once you start applying for the tech job of your dreams at itprosasia.com

1.) Always double check your resume

Don’t ever forget to use your word processor’s spell checking tool or at least read through your completed resume to check for spelling mistakes and other grammatical errors. Employers tend to hire applicants that have better English proficiency therefore you must ensure that everything that they read about you is clear and concise.

2.) Don’t forget to include personal and contact information

Age, Birthdate, Education Background, Work Experiences, E-mail Addresses, Mobile Phone Numberthese are just some of the information that employers use in order to contact you as well as gauge your eligibility for a job position. Never ever make an employer look for information that he/she could have otherwise gleaned from your resume.

3.) Provide a detailed listing of your technical expertise and soft skills

Always include your experience/s regarding various programming languages, databases, etc. that you have used / been using over the years. Identify the ones that you have been using extensively for work and those that you have only touched upon through College. The most important part is to show employers how long you have been using these tools which will in turn let them know how much you can contribute to their company.

4.) Make you resume presentable but don’t overdo it

A well-designed resume will certainly be eye-catching but be aware that most employers are more interested about the content of your resume rather than the design.  Follow the standard format (Objectives, Education, Experience, Seminars, Skill Summary, Personal Information, References) and attach a photo of yourself to complete your resume. Ensure that all photos attached are properly compressed and that the resume file itself is within a reasonable file size. Never ever send out an image/scanned resume and extra attachments such as your Transcript of Records, etc. should only be sent by request.

5.) Make your resume available!

Lastly, your resume should be available for recruiters and HR Officers at the most convenient locations. Our site provides a very reliable resume drop box where you can easily send your resume and an account for itprosasia.com will be immediately created for you.

Hopefully these tips will allow you to make the best resume possible that will land you your dream Tech Career. Good Luck with Job Hunting!
