On December 9-11, 2011, the most exciting annual event for the Philippine game development industry will take place at the De la Salle – College of St. Benilde. Organized by the Game Developers Association of the Philippines, the Philippine Game Development Festival aims to stir, inspire, and ignite participants towards a collective effort to take the industry to a higher level.
The event targets game development professionals, students, and industry leaders and will cover lectures, exhibitions, bazaar, a career fair as well as cosplay contest. Highlighting the event are the PGDF Annual Awards 2011 and the announcement of winners for the Game On! Students game development competition.
PGDF Annual Awards 2011 recognizes the creativity, talent and excellence of Filipinos in the field of game making. Each year, an independent Awards Committee composed of distinguished industry professionals from within and outside GDAP is set up to pick the best and outstanding games developed by Filipino developers for the year. This year, nominations are being opened for excellent games in the following categories: Cultural Awards, Innovation Awards, Best PC/Mac Game, Best Handheld/Mobile Game, Best Browser-Based Game, and Best Indie Game. Nominees may be games published by companies and independent professionals from January 2009 to October 2011.
Game On! is a competition among local university students to come up and present the best single player or multi-player browser-based game. The competition offers students a chance to put talent, creativity, and imagination into creating a complete online game. This year’s theme is Philippine folklore. Among the 15 entries shorlisted for the competition are those by students from the following universities: STI College Sta. Rosa, San Beda College –Alabang, Cosmopoint International Institute of Technology, Far Eastern University – East Asia College, Dela Salle University –Manila, San Sebastian College Recoletos –Manila, AMA College-Makati, and host Dela Salle – College of St. Benilde.
